The last two days at RA Padayachee have been an amazing experience. I have been exhausted by the time I leave the school, but it has been incredible to experience relationships beginning to develop with the kids. On Monday, I was able to work with four different classes, including a 5th grade class, two 6th grade classes and a 4th grade class. In all there were about a hundred kids between these classes that I was able to interact with.
I was given an hour with each class and was given freedom on what to do in that time. With each group I pretty much start out doing the same things, in order to get everyone together. I will usually do a few running drills with them, stretch, and then either a soccer drill or game. After this initial time is where I have been given an incredible opportunity. I have been giving the kids a break from activity in the middle of the hour session, in which we sit down and talk about life. Also, during this time I try and share with them a Bible story that I have studied for that day. I will be trying to walk through some key Old Testament stories for the next two weeks before introducing the Gospel to them.
This time period is the part with the kids that I really look forward to because it allows the kids to get to know me better, and I have the tremendous opportunity during this time to share the good news with them. On Monday and today, since working with different kids both days, I was able to talk to them about Genesis 1 and God’s creation. The kids are quite receptive to Bible stories so far and I will be looking forward to continuing that as this ministry progresses.
Tomorrow I am scheduled to teach at the school, helping out in a few different classrooms. I most likely will be helping kids with math, but was also encouraged to share stories with them as well. Introducing another Bible story tomorrow in class is a likely possibility, but I will have to see how classes progress. Altogether, it has been a demanding yet highly rewarding experience at RA Padayachee so far this week, I think for both the kids and myself.
